FLYER VOLLEYBALL FEATURED ON ESPN.COM HEADING INTO WEEKEND ACTION

Sept. 6, 2007

After cracking the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first time in school history, the No. 23 ranked Dayton Flyer volleyball team was one of two area teams featured in an article on ESPN.com.

The article, "Flipping the Script: Smaller programs scaring college volleyball's perennial powers", by Dave Reed outlines the rise of Dayton volleyball since fifth-year head coach Tim Horsmon stepped onto campus at the beginning of the 2003 season. The story also includes Ohio University, which is ranked an all-time high 13th in this week's Top 25 Poll.

UD (7-0) is off to its best start since 1995 when the Flyers won their first nine contests. This season's fast start has included back-to-back wins over Big Ten opponents as well as three five-game victories in which the Flyers came back from 2-1 deficits to win. Dayton also swept #17 Purdue on the Boilermakers home court to mark the highest ranked team ever defeated in school history.

The Flyers return to action this weekend with a trip to Winston-Salem, NC for the Black and Gold Challenge. UD takes on host Wake Forest Friday at 7 p.m. ET. On Saturday, Dayton faces Jacksonville (10 a.m. ET) and Radford (4:30 p.m. ET). All three matches can be followed with Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
