DAYTON RECEIVING VOTES IN FINAL AVCA TOP-25

Dayton has been receiving votes in the last 46 AVCA Coaches Polls.
AVCA Coaches Poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Dayton volleyball received 28 votes in the final American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll of the season, which was released on Tuesday. It is the 46th consecutive poll that the Flyers have been receiving votes.

Dayton, which will return 11-of-12 players for next season, began 2011 ranked 19th in the preseason poll and will end the season as the 29th-highest ranked team in the land with 28 top-25 votes.

In the final analysis, the Flyers played two teams which advanced to the Final Four (No. 2 Illinois and No. 7 Florida State), three top 10 teams (plus No. 6 Pepperdine) and six top 25 teams (plus No. 13 Kentucky, No. 19 Tennessee and T-No. 20 Michigan).

UCLA, the newly-crowned 2011 NCAA National Champion, received all 60 first-place votes to regain the No. 1 spot for the third time this season.

The Flyers finished the season with a 25-7 record, captured the program’s ninth A-10 regular season title, seventh A-10 Championship title and made a fifth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championship. Head Coach Kelly Sheffield was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season, while the Flyers featured a program-best three AVCA All-Americans.
