DAYTON, Ohio - The No. 18 Dayton volleyball team swept its way to its 15th straight victory with a 3-0 (30-16, 30-15, 30-22) win over Duquesne in Atlantic 10 action at Frericks Center. With the win, UD extends the nation's highest winning streak while improving to 15-0 overall and 2-0 in A-10 play.
Senior Jamie-Lee Richards paced the Flyers despite only seeing action in the first two games. She finished with a match-high 13 kills while hitting .667 with three service aces.
Freshman Yvonne Marten pleased the crowd of 600 Flyer Faithful with 12 kills while hitting at a .360 clip with three blocks.
Senior Robynne Green had seven kills, one service ace and a block while junior duo of Bethany Akerhielm and Mandy Robbe added six kills to help UD lead in every statistical category.
Junior Erin Schroeder dished out 36 assists to help Dayton out hit Duquesne .385 to -.011 and hold a 55-20 lead in kills as well as a 6.0-2.0 lead in blocks.
Sophomore Chelsy Christoff led all players with 12 digs while Mandy Robbe added 11 of her own off the bench top help UD record a 3-0 sweep for the fifth time in the last six matches and eighth time overall this season.
Senior Adrienne Green served as the libero for the first game and picked up seven digs overall to go along with three service aces.
After a slow start, Dayton pulled away from Duquesne in the opening game to win 30-16. The Flyers out hit the Dukes .395 to .103 as Jamie-Lee Richards led the way with six kills. Freshman Yvonne Marten added four kills of her own while senior Adrienne Green picked up six digs and two of UD's four service aces in the frame.
The Flyers kept up the charge in game two and defeated the Dukes, 30-15. Senior Jamie-Lee Richards picked up another seven kills before giving way to the "Flyer Five". UD's five-member freshman class all saw time in the second game. Yvonne Marten had two kills while Becky Novacek and Tiffany Gaerke each added one. Kacie Hausfeld dished out four assists to help Dayton out hit Duquesne .536 to .000. Rachael Broerman added four digs as the Flyers held the Dukes to just six kills in the second game to build a 2-0 lead in the match.
Game three was the closest of any in the match despite a .263 to -.156 advantage in hitting for Dayton. Senior Robynne Green and freshman Yvonne Marten led the way with seven and six kills respectively while Chelsy Christoff led the Flyer back row with seven digs to close out the match for UD.
The Flyers continue Atlantic 10 Conference play next weekend with a pair of road matches. UD will face Rhode Island on Friday and Fordham on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled begin at 7 p.m. ET and will feature Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com. |
