With the win, Dayton (10-9, 4-1 A-10) extended it winning streak to five straight matches and is now tied atop the A-10 West Division with Xavier (12-6, 4-1 A-10).
In match that was led by strong defensive efforts on both ends, sophomore Adrienne Green posted a career-high 27 digs to lead a group of five Flyers to reach double figures in that category.
Senior Nicole Schott followed with 17 digs to go along with 53 assists. The freshman duo of Erin Schroeder and Brittney Scheeringa posted 14 and 11 digs respectively while sophomore Amanda Kenny had 12 of her own.
Offensively, Dayton was led by 14 kills each from junior Faye Barhorst, who also had six blocks, as well as sophomores Robynne Green and Jamie-Lee Richards. Freshman Kortney Norris added 12 kills of offensive support.
The Flyers took game one easily and led by as many as 11 at 22-11 en route to a 30-22 opening game victory. Richards led all players with five kills while Barhorst and Robynne Green added four kills a piece as Dayton out hit Xavier .273 to .146.
After the teams traded the first few points, which led to a 6-6 tied score, UD won the next four rallies behind a pair of XU errors followed by kill from Green and block by Schott and Green. Xavier would get no closer than four the rest of the way before Dayton closed out the game with a kill from Barhorst down the right side.
The homestanding Musketeers regained their form to get by the Flyers with a 32-30 victory in game two. Kate Duchek and Astyn Bjorklund each tallied six kills in the frame for Xavier while Dayton was led by four kills from Richards. Both defenses stepped up their play in game two as XU hit just .109 while UD was limited to .065. Schott and Adrienne Green each had seven digs for the Flyers while Amanda Kenny added six of her own.
Game two featured some big plays by both sides as well as six tied scores and three lead changes. After both teams traded points to begin play Xavier appeared to run away with the game as it led by five as late as 20-15. Dayton then closed to within a pair at 20-22 before Xavier regained some of its momentum as Bjorklund ripped a kill from the middle to close out the longest rally of the match. However, the Flyers were not phased and knotted the score at 28-all on a kill from Schott. UD then had game point at 29-28 after an XU attack error, but Duchek responded with a kill to continue play. Dayton and Xavier traded the next two points before a pair of Flyer attack errors gave the Musketeers a 32-30 victory.
After six early tied scores and three lead changes, Dayton took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 30-25 win in game three. Barhorst paced the Flyer attack with six kills while Adrienne Green collected seven digs as UD out hit XU .212 to .175.
Neither team built a lead of more than two points early in the third game until Dayton used a 6-2 run with the scored tied 7-7 to take a 13-9 advantage. However, Xavier would get no closer than two rest of the way and UD built a lead of as many as six before holding off a hard charging XU squad to post a 30-25 victory.
Xavier rolled to a 30-15 victory in game four as it out hit Dayton .306 to -.043. Danielle Skrajewski led the Musketeers with four kills followed by three from Duchek. Only two Flyers had multiple kills in the fourth game as Norris and Schott each tallied two.
Dayton closes out a four-match road trip Tuesday as it travels to IUPUI for a 7:30 p.m. ET showdown.
