FLYERS OFF TO A STRONG START AT OILER OPEN

Day 1 Results

FINDLAY, Ohio
- The University of Dayton track program opened its 2011-2012 indoor season on Friday night at the Findlay Oiler Open. The Flyers competed in the only two women’s events contested, the pole vault and weight throw.

In the pole vault the Flyers were led by senior Courtney Siebenaller. Siebenaller finished in second place with a height of 3.75m (12-03.50 ft.). Sophomore Hanna Krizmanic was also a bright spot for the Flyers in the vault recording a height of 3.45m (11-03.75 ft.).

In the weight throw sophomore Aly Weeman set a new personal best throw of 15.55m (51-00.25 ft.). She finished in 13th place while fellow sophomore Samm Hortsman finished right behind her with a toss of 15.51m (50-10.75 ft.).

“The meet went well on day one. Almost everyone set a lifetime best. It was a great start to the meet and my opening meet as head coach,” Dayton head coach Jason Francis said. “Aly (Weeman) was one of the highlights of the day setting a personal record by over eight feet. I am even more excited for tomorrow. The hard work invested this fall is really showing up already. I am really looking forward to the women progressing as the season moves forward.”

The Oiler Open will resume progress on Saturday, Dec. 3. Final results will be posted to DaytonFlyers.com following the meet’s conclusion.
