BULGRIN AND CATTRAN GARNER ESPN THE MAGAZINE DISTRICT IV ALL-ACADEMIC HONORS

<P><B>June 5, 2009</B> <P> <!-- LINKS TO RELATED PAGES BEGIN --> <!-- LINKS TO RELATED PAGES END --> <P><B>DAYTON, Ohio - </B> University of Dayton track &amp; field student-athletes <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/bulgrin_maureen00.html" >Maureen Bulgrin</a> and <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/cattran_ashley00.html" >Ashley Cattran</a> were named <i>ESPN The Magazine</i> District IV Academic All-District. Cattran earned second team honors, while Bulgrin was named to the third team. It was announced on Friday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). <P>To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.20 on a scale of 4.0. Both Bulgrin and Cattran boast impressive GPA's, while also performing well athletically. <P>Bulgrin, a member of both the women's cross country and track and field teams, boasts a 3.64 GPA as an Adolescence to Young Adult Education major. During the track season, she was one Dayton's biggest contributors in the distance events. At the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championship she finished third in the 5000 meter (17:02.69) and was a member of the 4x800 relay team that placed second in 8:55.05 to record a new program record. Bulgrin finished fifth in the 3000 meter at the A-10 Indoor Championships (10:03.54). The sophomore owns the top three 5000 meter times of the season for a Flyer which ranks third in the A-10. <P>In addition to her success during the track season, Bulgrin had a standout cross country campaign. She was named the A-10 Performer of the Week three times and led the squad in seven of eight races. Bulgrin logged the 11th best time in UD women's cross country history this past season (17:56) and was 10th overall at the A-10 Championships. <P>Cattran had perhaps the best season of any Flyer in history. The Flyer sophomore boasts a 3.98 as a pre-med major. She is the first Flyer runner to qualify and compete in the NCAA Indoor Championship and U.S. National Championship in the 800 meter. During the indoor season, she earned gold at the A-10 Championships and set a new school record in the event. Cattran was also a member of the 4x400 relay team to break school record by four seconds earlier in the season (3:48.20). <P>She continued her success in the outdoor portion of the season breaking UD's 1500 meter record twice and the 800 meter record once. She placed fourth in the 1500 meter at the A-10 Championships and anchored the 4x800 relay team that placed second and recorded a new program record. She also qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional in the 800 meter.
