The University of Dayton Women's Track team competed for the third time this season at the Findlay Indoor Track & Field Classic over the weekend. There was no team scoring at the two day event, which took place at the Malcolm Athletic Center at the University of Findlay.
<P>The squad collected three individual titles and sophomore <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/mccormick_lauren00.html" >Lauren McCormick</a> had another strong meet for UD.
<P>Dayton had a solid showing in the 60 meter dash, where the team placed two runners in the top five. McCormick won the event in a personal best time of 7.66, while classmate <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/thomas_brittany00.html" >Brittany Thomas</a> turned in a time of 7.86 to finish fifth.
<P>McCormick and Thomas each excelled again for Dayton in the 200 meter dash. The sophomore tandem placed in the top ten with McCormick running fourth in a time of 26.2, and Thomas following in 27.0 for 10th place.
<P>In the 60 meter hurdles, UD received two top ten finishes as well. Junior <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/cornell_andrea00.html" >Andrea Cornell</a> wrapped up eighth place in a time of 9.41 in the finals, while sophomore <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/steinmetz_emma00.html" >Emma Steinmetz</a> finished 10th in 9.48.
<P><A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/cattran_ashley00.html" >Ashley Cattran</a> was a winner in the 400 meter dash, where the freshman set a personal indoor record (57.53) and took first place overall. Out of a field of 26, the Flyer rookie was one of just two runners to record a time under 1:00.
<P>The 800 meter run was sister act for the Flyers as sophomores Bridget and <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/conlon_angela00.html" >Angela Conlon</a> both notched personal bests. The siblings both claimed top ten finishes at the meet; Bridget took sixth in a time of 2:25.10, while Angela placed eighth with a 2:29.40 finish.
<P>More highlights could be found in the mile run, as UD placed three runners in the top ten. Freshmen <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/sherman_brigitte00.html" >Brigitte Sherman</a> (5:09.59) and <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/coorey_liz00.html" >Liz Coorey</a> (5:09.88) took second and third, respectively, while junior <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/nienhaus_ellen00.html" >Ellen Nienhaus</a> placed ninth in 5:24.03.
<P>In the 3,000 meter run, freshman <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/bulgrin_maureen00.html" >Maureen Bulgrin</a> finished second overall in 10:36.51.
<P>Distance Coach <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/alyanak_ann00.html" >Ann Alyanak</a> also competed at the event and took first in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 16:43.31.
<P>The Dayton relay teams each finished in top five fashion. In the 4x400, the Flyers set an indoor best (4:02.33) for the season and claimed fourth place overall. The 4x800 group did one better with a third place finish in a time of 9:36.07.
<P>The field events were led off by <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/sweeney_megan01.html" >Megan Sweeney's</a> third place finish in the high jump. The senior maxed out at 5-05 feet in the finals.
<P>Sophomore <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/devault_katie00.html" >Katie DeVault</a> led the Flyers in the pole vault competition, tying for eighth by clearing 10-02.00
<P>McCormick then took the long jump title, tying a personal best with a leap of 17 feet. Fellow sophomore <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/gresham_briona00.html" >Briona Gresham</a> also grabbed a top ten finish with a burst of 15-05.50, good for ninth place.
<P>Sophomore <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/funk_andrea00.html" >Andrea Funk</a> (34-10.25) finished third in the triple jump and Gresham (32-07.50) tied for seventh.
<P>Dayton also had three top ten finishers in the shot put. Freshman <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/zaccari_johnna00.html" >Johnna Zaccari</a> took second with a personal best distance of 46-02.00. Sophomore <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/allen_sarah00.html" >Sarah Allen</a> placed third (44-08.25) and freshman <A HREF="http://www.fansonly.com/schools/dayt/sports/w-track/mtt/barnes_mallory00.html" >Mallory Barnes</a> came in sixth (41-04.25).
<P>Barnes also took fifth in the weight throw with personal best toss of 54-08.75.
<P>The Flyers will be in action again next weekend at another two day event in Bloomington, Ind. The Indiana Relays will take place all-day on Friday, Feb. 1 and Saturday the 2nd. |
