DAYTON, Ohio - Freshman Melissa Walls and Sophomore Amy Kremer were named to the Atlantic 10 Second Team All Conference as the University of Dayton track and field team finished sixth out of 12 at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday. Walls and Kremer placed second in the pole vault (10-10.00) and high jump (5-07.00), respectively helping UD finish with 64 points overall at Mackal Field House in Rhode Island.
Dayton finished 18 points ahead of last year and seven Flyers recorded career records in their events.
Lauren McCormick finished fourth in the 55 meter dash, but recorded her career best in the prelims at 7.07. Freshman Brittany Thomas was close behind with her 7.30 time in the finals, good for eighth place, but finished faster in the prelims for her season best of 7.23 in the event. McCormick (25.89) and Thomas (25.90) also posted impressive times in the 200 meter dash. Micella Davis crossed the line at 26.81 for her fastest time of the season.
Three Flyers recorded personal bests in the 55 meter hurdles including Andrea Cornell (8.43), Micailah Brock (8.44), and Chantee Mathews (8.54).
Liz Forster (1:18.22) and Lisa Aubry (1:18.22) finished an impressive sixth and seventh in the 500 meter run.
Kate Tejkl ran the 800 meter dash in 2:20.50 for fifth place. She was also a member of the distance medley relay team (Alex Miles, India Moss, and Jacqueline Jaworek) that finished ninth in 12:45.70 and the 4x 8 relay team (Bridget Conlon, Angela Conlon, and Miles) that recorded a season best time of 9:44.36. Tejkl ran faster times in both relays than her previous best 800 meter times.
Also in relay action, the 4x4 relay team of Aubry, Forster, Stacy Chew, and Emma Steinmetz placed fourth overall with their time of 3:58.14.
Freshman Molly McCarty led UD in the throws posting a new career record in the weight throw with a 46-05.50 distance. She finished sixth in the shot put with her throw of 39-04.50 as Candace McKinley followed in seventh place (38-03.50).
Emily Deet topped her personal best in the 3000 meter run with 10:51.34, finishing 12th. Katie DeVault finished fourth in the pole vault with her solid mark of 10-04.00. Andrea Funk finished seventh in the triple jump with her 36-05.00 clearance; while Briona Gresham recorded her career record (35-07.25) and Tara Hentgen (35-03.25) had her season best in the same event.
Dayton will begin their outdoor season March 15 in Coral Gables, Florida. The Flyers will are set to compete in the Hurricane Invitational.
