A-10 COACHES FORECAST OUTDOOR SEASON

Jan. 20, 2006

PHILADELPHIA - The University of Dayton women's outdoor track team was predicted to place seventh in this year's Atlantic 10 Championship, according to the A-10 spring season coaches' forecast. The Flyers will look for repeat gold medal performances by Kelly Pohlman (shot put), and Candace McKinley (heptathlon).

Rhode Island and Charlotte each received an equal number of votes from the coaches for the championship title. Charlotte is new to the A-10 conference this season. Duquesne, Richmond, La Salle, and Temple are predicted to place ahead of the Flyers. Saint Joseph's, Massachusetts, Fordham, and Xavier are expected to follow.

Dayton was also picked to finish seventh in the indoor season in the forecast that was released in december.

The Flyers are looking to improve this season after coming in eighth in 2005. Pohlman (Versailles, OH) will return as to defend the A-10 Shot Put title she has won the past two years in a row. And McKinley (Helotes, TX) also is a defending back-to-back champion, taking home the heptathlon the last two years.

Senior sprinter Stacia Harold (Urbana, IL) and sophomore high jumper Megan Sweeney (Cincinnati, OH) are also back from last year's team. Sweeney took home the bronze in the A-10 indoor high jump while Harold ran her fastest 100 meter dash of the year at the A-10 outdoor championship.

Sweeney will have competition in the high jump this year from teammate and newcomer Amy Kremer (Minster, OH), who broke the school record in the high jump in the Flyers' second meet of 2006.

The 2006 Atlantic 10 Women's Outdoor Track Championship will be hosted by Charlotte and will take place at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center on May 6 and 7.

The Flyers' 2006 indoor track season continues the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, KY on January 27 and 28.
