NACKE HOMERS IN DAYTON LOSS

BOX SCORE GAME ONE   |   BOX SCORE GAME TWO

DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton softball team dropped two against the Saint Louis Billikens in a doubleheader on Saturday. Dayton struggled offensively losing 6-0 and 13-4.

Sophomores Brandy Brown and Lauren Nacke and freshman Kathleen Maloof supplied the power for the day. Brown went 2-for-4 during both games and knocked in one run. Maloof had two hits in the second game, including a double that scored the Flyers first run of the day. Nacke registered home run, bringing her season total to five.

In the first game, the Flyers were unable to keep up with the Billiken’s bats. UD had three hits and left five on the base, while Saint Louis tallied six runs on 10 hits, leaving seven on.

Down only three in the fifth, the Flyers looked as if they were going to get on the board. Brown led off the inning with a single to left and pinch-runner Eva Rappe advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Megan Barrett. With only one out, an error by the third baseman put runners on first and third but two quick outs ended the inning.

Eva Rappe took the loss, striking out two and recording four earned runs on nine hits.

Dayton wasted no time scoring in the second game. Senior Anne Maci was UD’s first base runner, reaching on a walk. The next batter, Maloof, hit a long double to center field. The hit sent Maci home and an errant throw put Maloof on third. Megan Lee matched that effort with a double of her own and recording her 16 RBI of the season. Lauren Nacke then launched a homer over the right field wall to clear the bags and give Dayton a 4-0 lead.

That lead was short-lived, however, the Billikens responded with a six-run, seven-hit, second inning and a five-run fourth inning that gave Saint Louis a 13-4 lead.

All three pitchers saw action in the second game. Sarah Wedel started the game and earned the loss. Amanda Daly pitched relief in both games, striking out two in the second. Rappe finished the game with two strikeouts.

Dayton travels to West Virginia Sunday, April 18 to take on Marshall. The first game starts at 1 p.m. ET with the second scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET.
