The University of Dayton softball team will open its 2009 season this Saturday, Feb. 7 at the University of Northern Iowa Dome Tournament.
The Flyers play their first game at noon against the Big 12 Conference's Nebraska in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
There are six freshmen on the 2009 edition of the Flyer softball team. Leading up to the start of the season, DaytonFlyers.com will feature two softball freshmen per day so fans can get to know the rookie Dayton class. In this final edition of Getting to Know the UD Softball Freshmen, the featured players are Courtney Kutsulis of Homer Glen, Ill. and Sarah Wedel of Salina, Kan.

I play softball because: I play softball because the little league wouldn’t let me play baseball anymore.

What do you want to accomplish during your time at UD? I want to make good friends, good grades, and a great four years of softball.
Career goals: Orthodontist

Rituals before going to the plate for an at bat: I visualize a hit and take a swing between each pitch.

I chose the University of Dayton because: I felt comfortable and at home when I first stepped on campus, and it has that family atmosphere.
My favorite thing about UD softball is: Having team members that are working toward the same dreams and goals as me.
The one word that best describes me is: Energetic
My pre-game ritual is: Biting all my nails off.
I play softball because: I excel at it and beating competition gives me confidence.
Favorite part of your game: Finishing a tough inning with that one perfect pitch that fools the batter.
What do you want to accomplish during your time at UD? Winning the A-10 Tournament and playing in the College World Series.
Career goals: Reaching the A-10 tournament all four years and receiving all-conference honors.
Hobbies: Hanging out with friends and family, listening to music, watching CSI-MIAMI, mispronouncing words and coming up with new phrases.
