CHARLOTTE, NC -
The University of Dayton softball team fell at Charlotte in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Saturday by scores of 6-0 and 8-4. Christine Eggers drove in all of UD's runs on the day with a bases clearing triple and a single in game two. Tami Roudebush pushed her hit streak to 11 games.

The Flyers are now 8-15 overall, 2-4 in the Atlantic 10.

In the second game, Charlotte picked up a run in the bottom of the first inning on two singles and a sacrifice fly from Kristi Killough.

But the Flyers struck back in the top of the fifth. Sheena Rothwell was hit by a pitch with one out, and Ellie Malchow followed with a single down the left field line. Mollie Schrank kept the hit parade going with a single of her own before Eggers delivered a bases-clearing triple. The Flyers almost broke the game open with a huge inning, but after Shalyn Adams reached on the fielder's choice and stole second, Charlotte starter Christy Murray induced two ground outs to strand two runners in scoring position.

Melissa Myher started game two by scattering five hits in five innings with one unearned run before Charlotte exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. The 49ers opened the inning with three straight doubles to tie the game at 3-3. Back-to-back singles made it 5-3, and after an RBI single, Matthews continued to make things difficult for UD with a bizarre two-run infield single, in which she was thrown out by the catcher, Adams, trying to advance to second base.

In the bottom of the seventh, Malchow led off with a triple and came in to score on a single to left by Eggers. Malchow was two-for-three in game two, while Roudebush was one-for-three in game two, the 11th straight game she's hit safely in. She is now hitting .383 on the season.

In game one, the Flyers were shut out, 6-0, as 49ers' starter Kristen Bowen held UD to just four hits on the day. Roudebush went two-for-three in game one.

Charlotte hit two solo home runs in the first inning, as Evan Miller and Becky Matthews took UD starter Erin Lafayette over the wall. In the third inning, the 49ers tacked on two more runs on three hits. Dayton swapped pitchers, bringing in Chelsea Grozenski to record the final out of the third. LaFayette took the loss, striking out one and walking none. Grozenski finished with three strikeouts and just one hit allowed. The one hit, however, was a two run home run by Matthews, her second of the game.

Bowen improved to 16-2 on the season for Charlotte, which is now 26-7 overall and 4-0 in the Atlantic 10.

The Flyers are back in action on Wednesday at home against Toledo for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m. |
