SOFTBALL OPENS REBEL GAMES WITH 4-2 LOSS TO COLGATE

March 13,

ORLANDO, FL - Blair Crabtree, Sheena Rothwell, and Christine Eggers each picked up two hits on the day, but the Dayton Flyers fell 4-2 to Colgate at the team's opener at the Orlando Rebel Games Sunday. Crabtree added a run scored and a run batted in, but Dayton falls to 3-5, while Colgate is now 4-2.

Eggers tripled down the right field line to lead off the game, and Blair Crabtree singled through the left side, for a 1-0 UD lead.

But in the bottom of the first, Colgate put together three singles, one of which was mis-played, leading to an unearned run and a 1-1 score.

Colgate picked up three runs in the second on a double by Tiana Tyeskey and RBI singles from Vicky Ortengren and Kortney Hannah. UD starter Melissa Myher left, trailing 4-1 after two innings, having allowed three earned runs.

Crabtree and Sheena Rothwell had back-to-back singles to open the fourth, and after Tami Roudebush walked, Christina Vetter delivered a bases-loaded single to cut the margin to 4-2. But Colgate starter Kate Howard got out of the jam as UD stranded the bases loaded.

Howard allowed nine hits in seven innings to pick up the win, her third against one loss. Grozenski pitched four hitless innings in relief for the Flyers.

LaPorscha Albert was two-for-three with two runs scored for Colgate.

Dayton also lost to Tennessee-Martin Sunday, 5-1, in Orlando. Skyhawks' junior Holly Templeton, pitched a two-hitter. She worked all seven innings and allowed one run.

The Flyers gave up four runs in the first inning to the Skyhawks. Emily Webb, Savannah Roberts, Stacey Weaver and Lauren Manna were all credited with first-inning RBI for Tennessee Martin..

UD will play 10 games in the Sunshine State, also taking on Fairfield and Lafayette (Monday), Rider and Fairleigh Dickinson (Wednesday), Army and Iona (Thursday) and Wagner and Binghamton (Friday) before returning home to open their home schedule on Tuesday, March 21 against Wright State.
