DAYTON, Ohio -  The University of Dayton softball team was shutout on a road doubleheader against St. Louis on Saturday. The Billikens took game one, 9-0 and won game two, 4-0 in both the team's first Atlantic 10 games of the year.

Dayton is now 3-11 on the year and 0-2 in the A-10, while Saint Louis is 14-16 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

In game one, SLU opened the scoring early in the first inning with a lead-off home run by Jill Pursell. Dayton pitcher Chelsea Grozenski then settled down for the Flyers retiring six of the next seven batters faced.

St. Louis struck again in the third when Lorena Flocarrio scored on a wild pitch. Grozenski stalled the Billikens attack by retiring the next three batters and stranding two runners.

Dayton rallied in the fifth when Sheena Rothwell broke up the no-hit bid. Sophomore Mollie Schrank later singled to center and UD had a runner in scoring position. The rally would stall as Dayton left two runners on base.

The Billikens put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth after scoring five runs on six hits and adding two more runs in the sixth to post the 9-0 victory over the Flyers.

St. Louis got on board first in the second game again behind Pursell who was knocked in by a single to center from teammate Rachel Heet. The Billikens would add two more in the third inning on one hit and an error.

Freshman pitcher Eva Rappe only allowed one run and two hits the rest of the way for Dayton, but the Flyers couldn't overcome the early deficit and fell in game two 4-0.

Blair Crabtree led the way in hitting for UD going 2-for-3 in game two. Rappe suffered the loss giving up five hits and four runs, only two of which were earned. Dayton is set to take on IUPUI on Tuesday, March 27 opening up the team's home portion f the schedule at UD Softball Stadium. Game times are set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. ET.
