MACCORMICK EARNS SCHOLAR ALL-REGION HONORS

  • NSCAA All-East Region Scholar Team

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton senior forward Lauren MacCormick was named to the 2009 NSCAA/adidas Women's Soccer Scholar All-East Region Second Team.

MacCormick, a pre-medicine major from Cincinnati, carries a 3.48 GPA and was also one of the most dangerous target forwards in the country this year, earning NSCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second Team honors.

She was a 2009 First Team Atlantic 10 selection after leading the Flyers with nine goals. She hit her penalty kick against Marquette in a shootout that helped the Flyers advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. Of her nine goals, five were game-winners, including a league-leading four in conference play. She also had six assists this season for 24 points, almost tripling her statistical output from last season.

"She developed as much over four years here as any player I can ever remember us having," UD Head Coach Mike Tucker said. "And as a captain she was spectacular. She doesn't say a lot, but she had the respect of every girl on this team. She was a great leader both for what she got done on the field and off it. If she wasn't playing a game or practicing, there's a good chance she was studying."

The Flyer women's soccer team earned the 2009 NSCAA College Team Academic Award. The UD men's team also took home this honor, and the University of Dayton was one of 101 schools to have both the men's and women's soccer programs earn the distinction.

MacCormick helped the Flyers to an unbeaten regular season, and the A-10 regular season and tournament championships in 2009. Dayton returns nine starters and 23 letter winners from its squad that went 16-1-6 and advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2009.
