SEDLACEK SCORES IN CLOSING SECONDS TO LEAD FLYERS TO SEVENTH-STRAIGHT WIN

Sep. 25, 2004

CINCINNATI, OH - Reba Sedlacek (Hamilton, OH) scored with 16 seconds remaining in regulation as the University of Dayton women's soccer team won its seventh-straight game with a 1-0 win at Xavier Saturday night. The Flyers, the preseason favorite for their eighth regular season Atlantic 10 title, open conference play 1-0.

The Musketeers (1-8-0, 0-1-0) hung in the game for 89:44 before freshman F Amy Lopez (Sunset Hills, MO) served a cross into the box for Sedlacek. The junior forward's spectacular bicycle kick slammed off the underside of the crossbar and then deflected off the XU goalkeeper Andrea Garber into the net for her fifth goal of the season. Freshman D Courtney Sirmans (Dayton, OH) was also credited with an assist as she flicked a short corner kick from senior MF Tesia Kozlowski (Westerville, OH) with her head to Lopez.

Sophomore GK Sarah West (Downers Grove, IL) took over in net at the half for senior Stacy DeLuca (Maryville, IL) and didn't need to record a single save on the five shots she faced to pick up the win. West, coming off injury, had not played all season. DeLuca made one save in her 45 minutes to lower her goals against average to 0.61.

The Flyers out-shot Xavier 14-9, but while only one XU shot found was on the frame, Dayton peppered Garber with 10 shots on goal. Now with five shutouts on the season, UD has allowed just two goals during its seven-game win-streak.

The Flyers will host Butler Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the first of three games in six days at Baujan Field. UD will also entertain St. Bonaventure (Friday at 7:30 p.m.) and Duquesne (Sunday at 1:00 p.m.) in Atlantic 10 action.
