Seven members from the Dayton Flyers women's rowing team were among those selected on the 2007 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association 2007 scholar athletes.

Seniors Allie Bogenschutz and Kate Sanders, juniors Susan Leopold, Maria Otte and Marcie Shockey joined sophomores Allison Gates and Jeanna Heink on the list. The seven UD student-athletes selected are the most in the program's history.

"We are very proud to have seven women on the team honored by the CRCA for their academic work during the year," said head coach Mike Farrey. "They are great examples for the rest of the squad. Next year hopefully we can put a couple more names on that list."

Last season UD had four rowers who were selected for the honor, which was the previous high. This is the second consecutive appearance for Sanders and Bogenschutz.

Bogenschutz, a Cincinnati native, recently graduated UD after majoring in public relations. Sanders, who is from Belleville, Ill., also graduated in May and studied chemical engineering.

Leopold is an early childhood education major from Maineville, Ohio. Otte, from Covington, Ohio, is majoring in computer engineering. Shockey is studying accounting and is from New Albany, Ohio.

Earlier this year Heink was named to the 2007 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team. The Lexington, Ky., native is a chemical engineering major and showcases a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. Gates is from Cincinnati and is a middle childhood education major.

The CRCA National Scholar-Athlete award recognizes student-athletes with a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or higher that competed in 75 percent of their team's 2007 spring races.

Academic success is nothing new for the Flyers this season. In April UD's women's rowing team was one of seven athletics programs at the University of Dayton were honored by the NCAA with public recognition awards for their latest Academic Progress Rate (APR).
