ROWING HEADS TO BLOOMINGTON SATURDAY FOR QUAD MEET

March 30, 2006 Dayton rowing continues its spring season on Saturday as it takes on Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan and host Indiana in a quad meet on Lake Lemon just outside Bloomington, Ind. The Flyers will be led this weekend by their Lightweight eight shell, which is tied for 12th in the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll. The same boat beat Duquesne in a dual last Saturday and will be racing side-by-side with UD's Varsity Eight in a race against the Bearcats, Eagles and Hoosiers. This fall, Dayton beat Ohio State's lightweight eight by 45 seconds in a dual on November 12 in Westerville, Ohio. "We are proud to be mentioned as one of the top tier lightweight programs in the country," UD Head Coach Mike Farrey said. "This weekend's meet will be the final test for us heading into the Atlantic 10 Championships. At this point in the season we are working towards a strong team finish at the A-10 Regatta. After the conference regatta we will begin concentrating on our lightweight eight that will race at Dad Vail and IRA's." Last Spring, the Dayton lightweight eight was ranked as high as sixth in the CRCA Poll after placing first and winning the Dennis Kamrad Trophy at the Dad Vail Regatta. It was the first ever gold medal for a UD boat in any national level competition. Following the Quad Meet on Saturday, Dayton will compete for the third time in as many weeks as it heads east for the Knecht Cup in Camden, NJ.
