CARBONDALE, Ill. – A season-best score of 76 from sophomore Grace Nikolai highlighted the Dayton Flyers’ second and final round of the 2012 Southern Illinois Saluki Invitational.

Nikolai, who previous best was a 77 at the UD Fall Invitational, had the best score of any Flyer at the Saluki Invite. She finished with a 157 total and tied for 16th among individuals.

“I thought our ball striking was good for this time of the year,” head coach Sally Kosters said. “I do think we have to work on our putting and chipping more, but overall I was encouraged.”

Dayton’s next top finisher was junior Kelly Coakley. After a 79 in round one, Coakley finished the tournament with an 87 in the second round. Her total was a 166.

Next for Dayton was freshman Lucy Frey, who carded back-to-back scores of 84, and finished with a 168 total.

Sophomore Maggie Prokop added an 88 in round two and completed the tournament with a 175. Freshman Kelly Muskat rounded out the scoring with a 93 in round two and a 178 total.

As a team, Dayton’s round two score was a 335. UD had a tournament total of 664 and finished in 13th.

“We enjoyed the course a lot,” Kosters said. “The team liked the course because it was challenging and few straightaways.”

Up next for the Flyers is the Eastern Kentucky Lady Colonel Classic from April 6-7. The event will take place in Richmond, Ky.
