University of Dayton women’s cross country will return to the course this Friday at the 31st Annual Women’s All-Ohio Championship in nearby Cedarville, Ohio. The women’s race begins at beginning at 2:45 p.m. ET.

The Flyers are No. 7 in this week’s USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional poll – the highest ranking of all 50 teams in the All-Ohio Championship. The only other higher-ranked team from Ohio in the Great Lakes poll – No. 3 Toledo – will not be participating in the race.

“We want to get out there and just compete,” Head Coach Sarah Hinkley said. “If our runners compete the way they have been racing and training, we should be fighting for first. They are healthy and all of them are excited to race.”

The Championship will be held at Elvin R. King Cross Country Course where the NAIA National Championship is held later this season.

“The ladies actually did a workout last Friday on the course to familiarize themselves with it,” Hinkely said. “It's just a great dedicated course. It's deceivingly challenging. There's not much flat ground. It's lightly rolling through the whole 3.1 miles.”

In the first two races of the season, the Flyers were paced by senior Elissa Mason. Last week Mason set a 5K personal-record of 17:36.

“Elissa is obviously racing very well and her training is progressing great,” Hinkley said. “As a senior she has maintained her focus and drive which is paying off for her and helping pull the team to a higher level. She does a great job keeping everything in perspective and enjoying the process, which helps the team more than she may realize.”

After racing just two races for the Flyers, Dayton native Katie Ollier has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Rookie of the Week twice. Last week Ollier posted a personal-best time of 18:15 and placed 20th overall at the National Catholic Invitational in South Bend, Ind., on Sept.  16.
