DAYTON ADVANCES TO TO A-10 SEMIFINALS FOR 5TH CONSECUTIVE SEASON

PHILADELPHIA –
The University of Dayton women’s basketball team never trailed and cruised to a 69-51 win over No. 11 seed Saint Louis in the quarterfinals of the 2012 Buick Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Championship at Hagan Arena.

No. 3 seed Dayton (21-6) plays No. 2 seed Temple (21-8) Sunday, March 4 at 2:30 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network. Tammy Blackburn and Brent Stover will have the call. This is Dayton’s fifth consecutive trip to the A-10 semifinals.

Senior Patrice Lalor scored a game-high 17 points in 14 minutes of action to pace UD. Senior Kayla Moses scored a season-high 11 points for the Flyers. Senior Justine Raterman added nine points. Senior Casey Nance added eight points and three blocked shots. Junior Sam MacKay had eight points and tied for a game-high with five assists. Freshman Ally Malott had a team-high eight rebounds.

MacKay led UD with six points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists in the first half.

Four different Flyers scored to give Dayton an 8-3 lead in the opening minutes. The Billikens tied the game at 18-18 on a Janisha Gearlds free throw with 6:53 remaining in the half. UD closed it out with a 14-4 run and Malott’s three-pointer with 48 seconds left gave Dayton its largest lead, 32-22. Back-to-back blocks by Andrea Hoover and Nance on SLU’s next offensive possession kept the Flyers’ double-digit lead at the half.

Lalor scored the first nine points of the second half for the Flyers to help push their lead to 41-26.

UD’s largest lead was 26 after an Olivia Applewhite layup with 4:03 left in the game.
