Sept. 17, 2009

2009-10 WBB Schedule

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The University of Dayton women's basketball 2009-2010 schedule has been completed after the Atlantic 10 Conference announced the league slate Thursday afternoon.

The Flyers' challenging A-10 schedule features three teams that earned NCAA bids last season (Charlotte, Xavier and Temple); along with five schools that made it into the WNIT including the Flyers. Eight of 14 teams in the league made it into the postseason and seven schools had 20 or more wins on the season, both feats are conference records.

UD will compete in seven road and home contests during conference season as the team opens up on the road with George Washington Jan. 9. The Flyers return home to host St. Bonaventure on Jan. 16 in the team's A-10 home opener. Dayton will have two televised games including the match-up with the Bonnies; along with a road game versus UMass on Feb. 13.

This year's squad will face Saint Joseph's (Jan. 20), Duquesne (Jan. 27), Xavier (Jan. 30), Fordham (Feb. 10), Massachusetts (Feb. 13), and La Salle (Feb. 27) on the road.

As for contests at UD Arena, the Flyers will take on Richmond (Jan. 23), Charlotte (Feb. 3), Saint Louis (Feb. 7), Xavier (Feb. 17), Temple (Feb. 20) and Rhode Island (Feb. 24) on their home court.

The A-10 season culminates on Mar. 5-8 when the 2010 Women's Basketball Championship will be hosted at a neutral site for the first time in league history, The Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md.

The Flyers will get the season started with the annual Red & Blue Scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 24. UD will play in one exhibition game hosting Indiana Pennsylvania University on Friday, Nov. 6. Dayton officially opens the season at home with Sweet 16 participant Michigan State (Nov. 13), followed by National Runner-up Louisville (Nov. 15).

Dayton returns its five starters and top seven scorers from a team that went 21-14 last season. The 2008-09 squad advanced to the Atlantic 10 Semifinals for the third time in the program's history and made its second-straight appearance in the postseason WNIT.
