DAYTON, Ohio - Kendel Ross recorded her fifth double-double of the season, but the UD women's basketball team dropped a 51-49 heartbreaker in the final seconds to Xavier on Saturday afternoon at UD Arena.

Though the Flyers led for the majority of the afternoon neither team was able to take control, and it was XU's Jerri Taylor who struck late with the game-deciding three. Dayton fell to 12-6 overall and suffered its first conference loss to the Musketeers, which improved to 15-4 overall and 3-0 in A-10 play.

Individually, the Flyers received double-digit scoring efforts from three different players. Justine Raterman led the way with 13 points, while Kendel Ross contributed her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Kayla Moses also chipped in with 10 points.

Xavier's Tudy Reed led all scorers with 14 points, but struggled with her touch all game long and made just four-of-15 attempts. Xavier, as a whole, had a miserable time trying to find the twine. The Musketeers fired up 70 shots and just 17 of them found the mark.

Both squads struggled shooting the ball early on as Xavier jumped out to a four point lead in the opening minutes, but the Flyers got on the board with a pair of free throws from Daugherty at the 17:06 mark. UD then tied the game in transition on a fast-break bucket by Raterman.

XU would lead by as many as five until the Flyers sparked a 15-0 run, which spanned 6:38, to pull ahead by 10. The Musketeers responded, however, with an 8-1 run to get back to within three points. Dayton secured its lead with some timely shooting and went into the locker room with a 24-21 lead.

In the second stanza, a big three-point basket from Ross followed by an easy lay-up by Chambers put Dayton back up by 10 at 7:14. And while each team went on a series of runs throughout, the score was 49-47 with just over a minute to go.

With the game up for grabs, a missed jumper by Daugherty with just 18 seconds remaining led to a series of shots by Xavier. One of those shots finally dropped in the bucket, and it was a three from the right-wing by Taylor to give XU a 51-49 advantage.

With six seconds left, Dayton called a timeout but could not get a shot off by the end of regulation.

The Flyers will be back in action at UD Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 21 when the team will take on Duquesne in another conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST.
