The University of Dayton women's basketball team will head east for the weekend, visiting Philadelphia for a Friday meeting at La Salle (7:00 p.m. tip), and continuing on to New York to face Fordham on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Cara Wright leads the Flyers into action with six double-doubles this season.
Wright, the junior forward who transferred in from Arkansas, scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds on Sunday versus Rhode Island for her sixth double-double of the year. She recorded her fifth at Saint Joseph's a week earlier with a career high 29 points to go with 11 rebounds.
La Salle is 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the Atlantic 10, tied for fifth in the West, one game back of UD.
Fordham is 4-13 overall and 0-4 in conference play, sixth in the A-10 East entering Friday's action. The Rams are at Temple on Thursday.
DAYTON NOTES Sophomore forward Jennifer Strong set a season-high with 17 points in UD's win over Rhode Island on Sunday. Emily Williams also chipped in 17 for UD on Sunday. The senior guard was one of three Flyers in doublefigures.
Freshman forward Nikki Oakland also set a career high in points at Saint Joe's, finishing with nine points and five rebounds.
Katie Butler was 3-for-5 from three-point range en route to 18 points against Richmond.
Dayton is 8-0 when scoring 58 or more points, and 0-8 when not reaching that mark.
Dayton is 6-3 away from home, and 2-5 at UD Arena or the Frericks Center.
Brittany Holterman tallied a career-high 11 points while pulling down seven boards against Richmond. She was part of a UD bench that accounted for 33 of the Flyers' 57 points on the night. She added seven points and four rebounds versus GW.
The Flyers' hosted last weekend's games in the Frericks Center, the first time the venue had been used for a regular season UD women's game in almost 20 years.
Dayton's five-game win streak in the building was ended Friday by George Washington. Before Friday, Dayton's previous loss in the Frericks Center came on February 5, 1977 to Morehead State, 80-69, in what was then known as the UD Fieldhouse.
The Flyers rebounded to win Sunday, 66-61 against Rhode Island, improving to 6-1 in the last seven games in the building. Frericks Center is the home of UD Volleyball, who is 21-2 in the Frericks Center the last two seasons and has won back-to-back Atlantic 10 Championships under head coach Tim Horsmon.
Katie Butler and Emily Williams were named to the Florida International Sun & Fun Classic All-Tourney Team as UD finished second in the Classic on Dec. 28-29, with a win over Brown, and a loss to host FIU. Katie Butler set a new career-high with 21 points in UD's win over Brown at the FIU Sun & Fun Classic. Angela Cape was two rebounds from a double-double in UD's win versus Brown, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.
UD's 79 rebounds this season in a win over Detroit is the highest total in Atlantic 10 history and among the NCAA's top performances ever.
