A-10 CHAMPS RECEIVING VOTES IN NATIONAL POLLS

AP Top 25 - ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll

The University of Dayton, recently crowned the 2012 Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Champion, is receiving votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Polls.

The Flyers received one vote from the AP Top 25 media panel and come in at No. 34 overall. They are receiving three votes in the Coaches Poll and are in the Top 36.
Dayton is back in the polls for the first time since the 2011-12 preseason.

Dayton claimed a 56-53 victory over #16/22 St. Bonaventure (ranking at the time UD played them) in the Atlantic 10 title game Monday. By winning the A-10 Championship the Flyers earn the conference’s automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship. It is Dayton’s third consecutive trip to the Big Dance.

UD will find out its seed, and First Round opponent and location Monday, March 12 at 7 p.m. during the ESPN Selection Show. The Flyers will host a watch party – details on location will be released soon.

FLYER NATIONAL RANKING HISTORY
Dayton received four votes (No. 37 overall) from the AP Top 25 media panel to start the 2011-12 season.The Flyers were No. 28 in the AP preseason poll and No. 30 in the preseason USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll to start the 2010-11 season. UD received votes in either the AP or USA Today/ESPN polls for 20 consecutive weeks (Preseason poll on Nov. 9 to Final) during the 2009-10 season. The Flyers made their first ever appearance in program history on the AP Top 25 (No. 25) and ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll (No. 24) on Nov. 30, 2009. Dayton then produced three convincing wins and was rewarded with a No. 20 ranking (Dec. 7), receiving 175 votes in both the women’s college major polls. Prior to this season, the last time the Flyers were receiving votes in the polls, they were on a 16-game winning streak and picked up three votes in the AP Top 25 Poll on Jan. 14, 2008. The first time in modern history the Flyers ever received votes in a national poll was Dec. 24, 2007 when they received five votes in the AP Top 25. The Flyers also received one vote in the Jan. 7, 2008 AP poll.
