2010-11 UD Women's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule PDF

DAYTON, Ohio –
The University of Dayton women’s basketball team, fresh off a year in which the Flyers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, will use a strong non-conference schedule to prepare for another run in 2010-11.

The 14-game non-conference portion of the slate includes teams from the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Horizon League, MAC, PAC-10 and Ivy League.

“A lot of people say this, but this is the most difficult schedule we’ve ever had at the University of Dayton for women’s basketball,” said head coach Jim Jabir. “This schedule is going to challenge us and get us ready for our conference season.”

The Flyers start off with a test from the Big Ten conference’s Penn State on Friday, Nov. 12 at UD Arena. The Lady Lions made the WNIT field last year. UD’s schedule against Big Ten foes continues when it faces Michigan State Nov. 15 in East Lansing, Mich. The Spartans also advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament this season, after advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2008-09.

“This non-conference schedule is immediately going to let us know where we stand,” said Jabir. “All of our toughest games are on the road this year and this will test our mental toughness. It will also prepare us for the difficult Atlantic 10 road schedule ahead.”

Dayton will then head to Minnesota to play in the Golden Gophers’ Subway Classic Nov. 20-21. The Flyers open the tournament against South Dakota, while Minnesota takes on UW-Milwaukee in the late game.

UD hosts Illinois-Chicago on Nov. 27 and closes out the month at Wright State on Nov. 29.

The Flyers host the Big East conference’s Cincinnati on Dec. 2 and then Toledo on Dec. 5. The Rockets advanced to the second round of the WNIT last season, falling to Michigan which advanced to the Elite 8. UD plays at the 2009 National Runners-Up Louisville Cardinals on Dec. 11.

The women’s basketball team will spend a week in Southern California to take part in the USC Basketball Classic Dec. 18-19. In addition to the Flyers, participants include: USC, San Diego State and Colorado. USC posted a 19-12 record and earned a WNIT bid, while San Diego State advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 last season. The Flyers will also take on CSU-Bakersfield on Dec. 22 as part of the West Coast trip.

The Flyers’ final home non-conference game on Dec. 30 features a matchup against Harvard, which was the in WNIT field last season after posting a 20-9 record.

Non-conference competition concludes on Jan. 3 when the Flyers play at Boston College. The Golden Eagles are led by Carolyn Swords who was named to the 2010-11 preseason “Wade Watch” list for the State Farm Wade Trophy Division I Player of the Year.

Dayton opens up the 2010-11 season with an exhibition match-up against Gannon on Wednesday, Nov. 3.

A complete schedule along with game times for all contests will be announced at a later date.

Dayton advanced to its first NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship, posting a dramatic 18-point comeback for a First Round win over TCU. The Flyers fell to Tennessee in the Second Round and finished the season 25-8 overall, tying a modern-era record for victories. Dayton graduates just one player and adds the OHSBCA Ohio Division I Player of the Year Cassie Sant of Fairmont for the 2010-11 season.
