The Right Coach
Attracting and retaining talented coaches in a competitive market is a challenge for schools at all levels. UD must be able to offer "the Right Coach" a long-term contract at near market value if we are to advance in Men's Basketball and realize our goal of having a Final Four capable program. Recent changes in NCAA recruiting legislation allow more Men's Basketball assistant coaches to be on the road recruiting. We also want to attract and retain talented assistant coaches. In addition, the success of emerging programs on the national level -- such as Volleyball (NCAA Tournament 2003, 2004) and Women's Soccer (NCAA Tournament in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004) -- continue to reinforce the fact that to be competitive, the "Right Coach" is an essential component of a program.
Building the Brand
Donors can help UD as they plan to launch marketing and informational plans to help the Flyers build their brand and image on a regional and national basis. For example, donor funds in this category can help the Flyers buy television time in key markets for reaching recruits and fans. This time will be used to air Men's Basketball games, coach's shows, etc. You can help us put the Flyers on the regional and national map. Simply put, we will do what needs to be done to advance the Men's Basketball program. It is the economic engine and brand catalyst for all of our sports programs.
Commitment
UD Athletics must continue to advance competitive results in select scholarship sports. In order to be an attractive member for any current or future conference, we must provide additional resources to our sports programs, especially those select scholarship programs that continue to emerge competitively. We are committed to fielding an authentic broad-based sports program that makes Dayton a "must-have" member for a prominent conference as the landscape of intercollegiate athletics continues to change now and into the future.
