DAYTON, OH - The University of Dayton cross country program rolls into Louisville, KY for the Greater Louisville Classic at 10:30 AM on September 24. The men's and women's teams are both coming off fifth place finishes at the National Catholic Invitational in South Bend, IN.

For the women, Dianne Striebel led the way by finishing 17th out of 277. Also finishing well and looking to improve on their National Catholic Invitational performance are freshmen Amy Kempf, Jacqueline Jaworek, and Anne Oltman, as well as sophomore Corey Fullenkamp, all of whom finished in the top 45 runners of the meet.

The men's side is led by freshman Mike Andersen, who has been the first Flyer across the finish line in his first two college races. Also performing well at the National Catholic Invitational were juniors Brian Gilchrist and Eric Contreras, sophomore Billy Przybyla and senior David Berning, who all finished in the top 50 out of 265 runners.

The Flyers are also looking for good performances from their defensive specialists from last week, who were Sarah Kessler and Emily Haas for the women and for the men Matt Peters and Tommy Middleton.

Defensive specialists are the sixth and seventh place finishers for any given team whose times, while not counted towards their team's score, count against other team's finishing position and thus add more points to their final scores. Last week the defensive specialists displaced runners from 58 different schools (30 for the women, 28 for the men).

The Flyers next meet after the Greater Louisville Classic are the All-Ohio Championships in Delaware, OH on October 7.
