UD FINISHES FIFTH AT NATIONAL CATHOLIC INVITATIONAL
Sept. 16, 2005 SOUTH BEND, IN - The University of Dayton women's cross country team finished fifth this afternoon at the National Catholic Invitational in South Bend, IN. The men's team also competed and finished fifth as well. Dianne Striebel (18:44) led the Flyers by coming in 17th place. Also scoring for the Flyers were Amy Kempf (18:58), Jacqueline Jaworek (19:18), Anne Oltman (19:24), and Corey Fullenkamp (19:33). The sixth and seventh finishers for the Flyers, also known as the defensive specialists, were were Sarah Kessler (19:35) and Emily Haas (19:36). They displaced runners from 30 different teams. The overall team winner for the women was Notre Dame who won their fourth team title in as many years. The individual winner, also from Notre Dame, was Sunni Olding with a time of 17:42. UD's top male finisher was Mike Andersen (25:49), who came in 17th place among Division I runners. The other four runners to score for the Flyers were Brian Gilchrist (26:37), Billy Przybyla (26:41), David Berning (26:42), and Eric Contreras (26:42). The defensive specialists for the men were Matt Peters (26:44) and Tommy Middleton (27:01), who displaced runners from 28 different teams. The overall team winner for the men was Duquesne, which snapped Notre Dame's ten year run of winning the event. The individual winner was Patrick Smyth from Notre Dame with a time of 24:36. Up next for the Flyers is the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, KY on September 24. |
