WOMEN FINISH SECOND, MEN PLACE THIRD AT FLYER 5K CHALLENGE

KETTERING, OH - The University of Dayton cross country teams opened their seasons this Saturday with the Flyer 5K Challenge at Indian Riffle Park in Kettering, OH. The women's team placed second in this weekend's event, with a total of 46 points, while the men placed third. Newcomer Amy Kempf came in third place with a time of 19:05, and she was closely followed by Dianne Striebel who placed fifth with a time of 19:11. Jacqueline Jaworek finished in eighth place at 19:24, and Corey Fullenkamp came in 11th at 19:32. The Flyers' last scoring runner was Anne Oltman, who finished with 20:02 in 19th place. The Cincinnati women earned 39 points to finish first. UC's Karen Berling finished first with a time of 18:58. The University of Miami took third, Xavier fourth, Wright State fifth, and IUPUI sixth. (Complete Women's Recap) On the men's side, Mike Andersen led UD by placing 16th among Division I runners with a time of 16:11. Also scoring for the Flyers were Eric Contreras (16:14), David Berning (16:17), Billy Pryzbyla (16:24) and Matt Peters (16:28). (Complete Men's Recap) Miami took the Division I men's crown for the third year in a row. Chris Swisher from Miami took the individual Division I title with a time of 15:33. Northern Kentucky won the Division II race uncontested with Greaham Niemer (16:04) taking the individual title. The Flyers' next race will be the National Catholic Invitational in South Bend, IN on Sept. 16. |
