FLYER CROSS COUNTRY FINISHES STRONG AT SPIKED SHOE INVITE

DAYTON, Ohio - - The University of Dayton men's and women's cross country teams finished strong at the Spiked Show Invite on Saturday morning placing eighth and 13th respectively. Freshman Alex Miles came in first for the women Flyers as Sophomore Mike Andersen took home the gold and set yet another school record at the meet. After coming off a strong race last week, two-time Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week Mike Andersen broke UD's 8K record yet again finishing first out of 297 runners at the 5.2 mile event. Although Andersen's final time was 25:47, he crossed the 8K split (5-mile marker) at 24:45; improving his time from last week by 10 seconds and setting yet another school record for the second week in a row. Other Flyers to score included Senior Eric Contreras (27:26.40), David Berning (27:44.50), Matt Peters (27:53.80) and Daniel Sammons (27:56.25). The sixth and seventh runners, Mike Peters (28:50.80) and Tommy Middleton (28:51.85), helped displace competitors from 13 other teams. The victory ultimately went to Syracuse University who had three men finish in the top 10. On the women's side, underclassmen and freshman Alex Miles led the pack for Dayton finishing 47th in a time of 23:13.90. Kristin Terry was not too far behind coming in second for the Flyers at a time of 23:16.15. Ellen Nienhaus (23:40.20), Amy Kempf (24:06.25), and Emily Haas (24:14.50) were among those to also score and finish in the top 5 for UD. Bridget Conlon (24:23.75) and Sydney Hubbard (24:30.40) placed sixth and seventh, displacing runners from 25 teams. The women's team from Syracuse University placed first at the meet. The overall individual winner was Jillian Sullivan from the University of Connecticut. Next up for the Flyers is a trip to Delaware, Ohio where they will compete at the All-Ohio Championship on October 6th. |
