FLYER DUO EARN AVCA ALL-REGION HONORS

LEXINGTON, Ky. - For the fourth consecutive year, Dayton was well represented on the AVCA All-Northeast Region teams released on Monday by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Senior Faye Barhorst earned All-Region honors for the third consecutive year while sophomore Erin Schroeder earned Honorable Mention honors. Barhorst will be in the running for AVCA All-America status which will be announced on Dec. 13. The senior middle blocker was also named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American each of the last two seasons while earning AVCA Regional Freshman of the Year honors in 2003. A two-time Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Barhorst is UD's all-time leader in hitting percentage, kills and blocks. She ranks fourth nationally in hitting percentage this season at .431. Schroeder is the second straight Flyer to earn A-10 Setter of the Year honors. She led Dayton to a school record .255 team hitting percentage while recording the fourth most assists in UD single-season history (1,461). Schroeder led Dayton to the A-10 West Division Championship and averaged 12.38 assists per game overall and 13.57 in conference matches to rank third in the A-10. She ranked first among setters in the A-10 with 2.61 digs per game during conference play. Dayton has won three straight Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championships and has advanced to the A-10 Finals each of the past four years. The 2003, 2004 & 2005 Atlantic 10 Champions hold the highest winning percentage of any active A-10 team in conference play (149-49, .753). UD has been home to four Atlantic 10 Players of the Year and two A-10 Setters of the Year under the direction of fourth-year head coach Tim Horsmon, who was named the 2005 A-10 Coach of the Year. The Flyers have recorded 12 consecutive winning seasons and six straight 20-win campaigns. Dayton was 22-11 in 2006 including a victory over #18 Arizona - the highest ranked opponent ever defeated by the Flyers. |
