Dayton's NCAA Tournament Central page
Dayton volleyball will make its third straight appearance in the NCAA Championships in its third different location when it takes on No. 6 seed Notre Dame on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET in South Bend, IN. The Flyers will be playing for the right to face the winner of the Northwestern-Texas A&M match in Friday's Second Round at 7 p.m. ET. Dayton has won the Atlantic 10 Title in each of the past three seasons under the direction of Head Coach Tim Horsmon. The Flyers also enter the post season with wins in 19 of their last 20 matches.
FLYERS AGAINST THE SOUTH BEND OPPONENTS
Dayton is 2-9 all-time against Notre Dame, but the two schools have not faced each other since the 1992 MCC Championship Match. The Flyers and Irish were rivals in both the North Star (1983-87) and Midwestern Collegiate (1990-92) Conferences. UD last beat ND in 1990 when the teams met in Dayton. The Flyers have never faced Northwestern or Texas A&M.
DAYTON AGAINST THE NCAA FIELD
UD is 1-3 this season against teams that advanced to the 2005 NCAA Tournament field. The Flyers swept MVC Champion Missouri State, 3-0 on Sep. 3. Dayton also lost to Florida (0-3), Purdue (0-3) and UC Santa Barbara (0-3).
UD - AN NCAA TOURNAMENT REGULAR
After being shutout of the postseason for its first 33 years as a program, Dayton has played its way to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons. The Flyers advanced to the Second Round in 2003 with a stunning five-game upset of host Michigan State. In 2004, UD lost at Ohio State in a First Round match.
THREE-PEAT
Dayton has won three straight Atlantic 10 Championships, all under the direction of third-year Head Coach Tim Horsmon. The championships and resulting NCAA Tournament berths are the first in the program's history. UD is also one of just four schools in the A-10's 24-year history of the sport to win three consecutive titles.
