PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Dayton volleyball team lost its opening match of the Pittsburgh Classic, 3-1, to Long Island Saturday at Fitzgerald Fieldhouse. Faye Barhorst (Ft. Loramie, OH) continued her hot hitting with 19 kills and a .586 percentage. Christy Utnage (Indianapolis, IN) hit .300 with 17 kills and Adrienne Green (Palatine, IL) posted 20 digs.

The Flyers fell in game one 30-28, but stormed back to a 30-17 win in the second game. But LIU fended off the Flyers 30-26 in game three and put the match away with a 30-28 win in game four.

Utnage chipped in 13 digs to go with her 17 kills and Shanna Pressler (Archbold, OH) had 11 digs and nine kills. Barhorst added three solo blocks and five assisted blocks.

The Flyers are 6-5 on the season and face Southern Illinois and Pittsburgh on Saturday as the Pitt Classic rolls on.
