FLYERS FALL TO TOLEDO IN FIVE GAMES
Sep. 18, 2004 TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team pushed unbeaten Toledo to five games, but couldn't pull out the victory in Saturday's finale of the Toledo Rocket Classic. Nicole Schott (Roscoe, IL) and Adrienne Green (Palatine, IL) were named to the All-Tournament Team. Green, a freshman libero, pulled out 13 digs in the match and 70 in the tournament. Schott had 45 assists, eight digs and five kills in the match. For the tournament, Schott posted 160 assists, 23 kills, and 33 digs. Christy Utnage (Indianapolis, IN) had 18 kills and 16 digs for UD, while Faye Barhorst (Ft. Loramie, OH) added 14 kills to go with four solo blocks and six assisted blocks. Barhorst hit .345 for the tournament with 55 kills. Dayton fell 30-19 in game one, but answered with back-to-back wins in games two and three by the scores of 30-26 and 30-27. The Rockets answered with a 30-24 win to force a decisive game five. In the final stanza, Toledo rolled 15-9 to win the match and reach 10-0 on the season. The Flyers are now 6-4 on the season. The Flyers will travel to Pittsburgh next weekend to meet Long Island Friday in their first match of the Pittsburgh Invitational. Dayton will face Southern Illinois and Pittsburgh on Saturday. |
