DEFENSE LEADS UD TO 3-1 WIN OVER UW-GREEN BAY

TOLEDO, Ohio - Five Flyers had double-figure digs, led by Adrienne Green's 21 as the Dayton volleyball team defeated Wisconsin-Green Bay 3-1 Friday at the Toledo Rocket Classic. Earlier in the day, the Flyers swept UNC Greensboro.

Dayton's defensive game was struggling in the early matches of 2004, but the backline came up with 76 digs in against the Phoenix. Faye Barhorst (Ft. Loramie, OH) hit .308 with 18 kills to lead UD offensively. Adrienne Green's 21 digs led UD while sister Robynne Green (Palatine, IL) had 16. Shanna Pressler (Archbold, OH) had 14 while Nicole Schott (Roscoe, IL) dug a dozen and Christy Utnage (Indianapolis, IN) had 11.

The Flyers took game one 31-28 and the second game was a marathon 38-36 win by UWGB. Dayton rebounded to take games three and four 30-25 and 30-23.

Barhorst hit over .300 for the third time in five matches and is now hitting .306 on the year with 101 kills.

Dayton will face Oakland on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and the host Toledo Rockets at 8:00 p.m. as the Rocket Classic rolls on.
