FLYERS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS HEADING INTO 2007 ATLANTIC 10 VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

CHARLOTTE - The No. 16 ranked Dayton Flyer volleyball team picked up honors from the Atlantic 10 Conference heading into the start of the 2007 Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championships in Charlotte, NC this weekend. Redshirt freshman Lindsay Fletemier was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year for the Flyers which enter the weekend with not only the best record in the conference at 12-1, but in the nation at 28-1 overall. Senior Jamie-Lee Richards and junior Bethany Akerhielm earned A-10 First Team honors while redshirt junior Erin Schroeder was named to the A-10 Second Team along with Fletemier, whom also was tabbed as an All-Rookie Team selection. Other major awards handed out following a vote of the league's coaches saw the A-10 Player of the Year handed out to Jill Quayle and the A-10 Coach of the Year given to Floyd Deaton of second-seeded Xavier. Whitney Roth from third-seeded Saint Louis was tabbed as the A-10 Rookie of the Year while Carly Romberg of Charlotte was named the A-10's inaugural A-10 Libero of the Year. In other voting conducted by the sports information offices from the Atlantic 10 Conference, senior Alma Arroyo of Charlotte was named the A-10 Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Year. Fletemier enjoyed an outstanding rookie season, leading Dayton to its fourth consecutive Atlantic 10 Regular Season title and a school record 21 straight wins to start the season. She was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week, a league-high six times and was named the CVU.com National Player of the Week on Nov. 7. Fletemier led all A-10 rookies with a .346 hitting percentage during league play while racking up a team-best 1.30 blocks per game overall. She is also second on the team in overall hitting percentage (.346) and kills per game (2.86). Richards has made her final year in the Red and Blue her best with nearly double the amount of service aces she tallied in the first three years of her career. She leads the A-10 and ranks among the Top 25 teams in the nation with 59 service aces this season to go along with a team-best 3.92 kpg. Richards was named the A-10 Player of the Week once this season. Akerhielm leads Dayton in both hitting percentage (.351) while ranking second in blocks (1.12) and third in kills (2.53 kpg) while also being named the A-10 Player of the Week once this season and earning MVP honors at the Mortar Board Premier when the Flyers defeated Purdue, Utah and North Carolina. She is also one of five Flyers to tally at least 25 service aces overall and one of seven with at least 145 points scored. Schroeder engineered a Dayton team that racked up a school-record 21 consecutive victories to start the season and swept 19 of 29 opponents this season including nine of 13 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Flyers hit .244 as a team behind her 11.63 assists per game on the offensive side. Defensively, she also picked up 2.64 digs per game, which was second best on team and was third on the squad in service aces with 31. Top-seeded Dayton will receive a bye into Saturday's Semifinals round and will play at 5 p.m. ET against the lowest remaining seed from Friday's Opening Round.
