COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Dayton volleyball team closed out its competitive spring season with a controlled practice session at Ohio State on Tuesday evening.

Both sides opened with some competitive drills before playing in situational scrimmages at St. John Arena.

"I think it was a good workout for both teams," new Dayton head coach Kelly Sheffield said. "Sometimes you're able to get more done and a little more teaching in during these type of atmospheres than you are by just going to a spring tournament."

Dayton will practice back on campus on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before ending its spring campaign to focus on final exams that begin on campus Monday.

The Flyers are building upon their best season in modern program history in 2007. UD enjoyed a 33-2 overall record that culminated with a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Flyers were ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first time ever and reached as high as 12th in the Poll at one point. UD won its fourth straight Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship and took home the Atlantic 10 Tournament Title for the fourth time in five years. The Flyers also hosted NCAA First and Second Round matches for the first time ever in front of sold-out crowds at Frericks Center.
