FLYERS ADD TWO MORE TO 2007 RECRUITING CLASS
April 7, 2007 DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton head volleyball coach Tim Horsmon announced the addition of two more players to an already solid 2007 recruiting class on Friday. Kacie Hausfeld and Rachel Broerman will join the Flyer roster this Fall. Hausfeld, a local product from Archbishop Alter High School, led the Knights to their third state title in the last five seasons in November with a win over then top-ranked Walsh Jesuit in the OHSAA Division II State Title match. She was a First Team All-State selection as a senior for the State Champion Knights. "Kacie is a tremendously skilled setter and understands her position and the nuances of the game," Horsmon said. "Kacie has a winner's demeanor. We think she could make an immediate impact on the Flyer program. Kacie is calm and confident and will run a really smooth offense. We are really excited to have Kacie here and think that she will be a great fit in what we are looking for in a volleyball player and student here at the University of Dayton." Broerman comes to UD from St. Mary's High School in Colorado Springs, Colo. She was an Honorable Mention All-State pick after tallying 3.54 digs per game as a senior including 43 against Lamar on October 3. St. Mary's made it fourth straight appearance in the State Tournament this past Fall. "Rachael is what we want in the recruits coming to UD," Horsman said. "Much like Kacie, Rachael is tough and knows how to win. Rachael is playing for one of the elite club programs in the country and is a force on the court. We have been looking for competitive players to push us to the next level and our Flyer fans are going to love the effort and energy that Rachael plays with. When you are looking for a libero you would identify all of characteristics that Rachael displays." Hausfeld and Broerman join a group of incoming freshman that should make an immediate impact on the court for the Flyers. Tiffany Gaerke (Fort Recovery, Ohio), Yvonne Marten (Fortville, Ind.) and Becky Novacek (Aliquippa, Pa.) each signed National Letters of Intent during the early signing period in November. "We couldn't be any happier with Kacie's and Rachael's decision to play here at the University of Dayton," Horsmon said. "We love having great character players here and both of these players exemplify this. Both know how to win and will work hard to make our program better. I believe that with the addition of these two players along with Becky, Yvonne and Tiffany we will have one of the top 25 incoming classes in the country." Dayton has won three straight Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championships and has advanced to the A-10 Finals each of the past four years. The 2003, 2004 & 2005 Atlantic 10 Champions hold the highest winning percentage of any active A-10 team in conference play (149-49, .753). UD has been home to four Atlantic 10 Players of the Year and two A-10 Setters of the Year under the direction of fourth-year head coach Tim Horsmon, who was named the 2005 A-10 Coach of the Year. The Flyers have recorded 12 consecutive winning seasons and six straight 20-win campaigns. Dayton was 22-11 in 2006 including a victory over #18 Arizona - the highest ranked opponent ever defeated by the Flyers. |
