VOLLEYBALL FINALIZES COMPETITIVE SPRING SCHEDULE

Head Coach Kelly Sheffield will get his first look at the University of Dayton volleyball team in competition during a four-week Spring schedule that was finalized Tuesday. The four-time Atlantic 10 Champion Flyers will begin their play this Saturday at the Indianapolis Collegiate Invitational. UD will be in Pool A this weekend and is scheduled to play Indiana, Pittsburgh and Sheffield's former team Albany in Pool play before playing a fourth match against either Bowling Green, Kentucky, Purdue or Valparaiso. Matches are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET with the final matches starting approximately at 2 p.m. ET. All matches will be played at the Capitol Sports Center in Plainfield, IN. Admission is just $4 for adults, $1 for children while all kids under 12 years old are admitted free of charge. The Flyers will continue their Spring season with a home tri-match on Saturday April 12 against Ohio and Louisville. Times for the matches at Frericks Center will be announced next week. Dayton then heads to Chicago for the 2008 Great Lakes College Invitational hosted at the Great Lakes Center in Aurora, IL. At least 23 teams from around the nation will take part in the event, which has become one of the premier collegiate spring tournaments in the country. Scheduled to take part are Indiana State, UConn, LSU, DePaul, Illinois State, Saint Louis, Maryland , Purdue, North Carolina, Virginia, Miami (Ohio), Albany, Ohio, South Carolina, Kansas State, Michigan State, Illinois-Chicago, UW-Milwaukee, Northwestern and Marshall. Matchups and times will be announced closer to the start of the event. UD then closes out its Spring season with a trip to Cincinnati for the UC Spring Classic on Saturday, April 26. Dayton enjoyed its best season in program history in 2007 with a 33-2 overall record culminating with a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Flyers were ranked in the CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first time ever and reached as high as 12th in the Poll at one point. UD won its fourth straight Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship and took home the Atlantic 10 Tournament Title for the fourth time in five years. The Flyers also hosted NCAA First and Second Round matches for the first time ever in front of sold-out crowds at Frericks Center. |
