FLYER VOLLEYBALL SPRING SEASON UNDERWAY THIS WEEKEND
April 1, 2005 The two-time defending Atlantic 10 Champion Dayton volleyball team will take part in four Spring Tournaments during April. UD gets started with the 2005 Chicago Spring Challenge in Palos Heights, IL on April 2. The Flyers will join 17 other teams in the day-long event and will play in Pool 2 along with Duke and Illinois to begin the day. Dayton will also travel to the Ohio Spring Tournament on April 9, the UC Spring Tournament on April 16 and the Bowling Green Spring Tournament on April 23. The Flyers return 11 players and four starters plus a libero from the 2004 Atlantic 10 Regular Season and Tournament Champion team. AVCA Honorable Mention All-American Faye Barhorst comes back from a sophomore season in which she led the A-10 in hitting percentage, blocks and points per game while also finishing third in blocks. Setter Nicole Schott will enter the Fall ranked third in UD history with 3,013 career assists after tallying 1,239 as a junior in 2004, which were the ninth most in Flyer single-season history. Head Coach Tim Horsmon remains at the helm after two-straight 20-win seasons. During his tenure at Dayton, Horsmon has coached consecutive A-10 Players of the Year (2003, 2004) and his players have won four All-Region Selections and three Honorable Mention All-America honors. He has also won the conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA postseason all six years he has been a collegiate coach overall. |
