VOLLEYBALL RESUMES SPRING SCHEDULE AT CHICAGO SPRING CHALLENGE
March 29, 2006 The Flyer volleyball team looks to build on the momentum from a strong performance at Ball State last weekend when it heads to Palos Courts for the 11-team Chicago Spring Challenge this Saturday. UD began its 2006 Spring season with wins over Ball State, IUPUI and Butler last weekend in Muncie, Ind. The opening weekend of play was highlighted by strong performances by Erin Schroeder, Lauren Markowski, Chauntay Mickens and Mandy Robbe. "I was excited to see the job Erin did setting at Ball State," UD Head Coach Tim Horsmon said. "I thought Lauren was solid as a setter and Chauntay improved throughout the day in her first extensive action against collegiate competition. Also, Mandy did a good job defensively and in serve receive." Dayton now heads to the Chicago Spring Challenge this weekend for matches against some of the best competition it will see this Spring. The Flyers face off against opponents from the Big Ten, Missouri Valley and Horizon League on Saturday. "It will be a physical tournament for us this weekend," Horsmon said. "We will take on teams similar to the level will face next season. This weekend should really help us in getting ready for a challenging schedule this Fall." UD begins with two matches on Saturday morning against Iowa at 8 a.m. CT and Illinois State at 9:30 a.m. CT The Flyers finish with afternoon matches against Bradley (1 p.m. CT), Illinois-Chicago (2 p.m. CT) and Purdue (3 p.m. CT).
