Jason Oliver comes to Dayton after five seasons as an assistant at West Virginia

Feb. 1, 2005

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton Head Volleyball Coach Tim Horsmon has announced the addition of Jason Oliver as an assistant coach. Oliver, who spent the last five seasons at West Virginia as an assistant, replaces Joe Bonner who left UD to become the head coach at Youngstown State.

"We are excited to add someone of Jason's caliber to our program," Horsmon said. "His recruiting experience, technical knowledge and energy he brings to the floor will certainly help us continue to compete on a national level."

Oliver was the top assistant at West Virginia in charge of setters and recruiting. During his time at WVU, the team won 49 matches and had an All BIG EAST selection in 2004 and an Academic All-American in 2001.

"Dayton is an exciting place because of its volleyball-rich environment," Oliver said. "Tim Horsmon and the University put an emphasis on volleyball, which has helped the program be a consistent A-10 Champion and a competitor on the national scene. I can't wait to get started."

Originally from Thousand Oaks, Calif, Oliver previously spent one season each as an assistant at Marymount University, California Lutheran and Towson University.

Oliver graduated from George Mason University in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in Communciation and was an all-league setter for the Patriots during his two-year stint, while serving as team co-captain during his senior season.

Before attending George Mason, Oliver was a two-time all-league setter at American River Community College in California and where he was the MVP and team captain two years in a row. Prior to college, he excelled at Thousand Oaks High as an outside hitter.

In addition to his college coaching experience, Oliver was a coach for Zuma Bay Club. He coached the 17-1 and 14-1 teams as well as directing the 16 and under division. Oliver also served as the head junior varsity coach at Thousand Oaks High in 1994-95.

Dayton was 23-9 in 2004 and won the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship with a 12-2 conference ledger. UD also won its second straight Atlantic 10 Championship before advancing to its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
