VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO SAINT LOUIS, CLINCHES A-10 TOP SEED
Nov. 11, 2006
DAYTON, Ohio - Dayton dropped its A-10 regular season finale to visiting Saint Louis, 2-3 (30-25, 23-30, 28-30, 30-18, 8-15) on Saturday. Despite the loss, UD remains as the top seed in next weekend's Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championships and will share the A-10 West Division title with the Billikens. The Flyers (21-8, 11-2 A-10) also secured a first round bye in the A-10 Tournament and will play their first match in the Semifinals on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET. Their A-10 Regular Season Championship is the program's third straight and fifth title overall (1998, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006). Despite an offense that out hit the visitors .296 to .266 overall, Dayton could not hold down a Saint Louis attack that hit over .300 in all three games it won. Faye Barhorst and Jamie-Lee Richards led the Dayton offensive attack on the night. Barhorst had 20 kills and six blocks on her own Senior Day. Richards also finished with 20 kills while adding 12 digs and three blocks. The Flyer defense was paced by 20 digs from junior libero Adrienne Green while Nicole Bateman tallied her 15th double-double of the season with 13 kills, 16 digs, three blocks and two service aces. Junior Robynne Green had 12 kills, eight digs and four blocks for the Flyers which won at least 10 matches in A-10 play for the 12th consecutive season. Redshirt sophomore Erin Schroeder posted her third highest assist total of the season with 68 on the night while adding nine digs and four blocks. Freshman Chelsy Christoff finished with 11 digs of her own for her second career double-digit performance.
