VOLLEYBALL CONTINUES HOT STREAK WITH WIN OVER GW

DAYTON, Ohio - Homestanding Dayton cruised to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-20, 30-26) win over George Washington in Atlantic 10 volleyball play at the Frericks Center on Saturday night. UD (14-6, 6-1 A-10) has now won eight of its last nine matches overall including six of seven in conference play to remain in a three-way tie for first place in the A-10. With the loss, GW fell to 4-14 overall and 1-6 in the Atlantic 10. Senior Christy Utnage (Indianapolis, Ind.) closed out a strong weekend of play with 18 kills while hitting .341 to go along with 15 digs. She now has 12 double-doubles on the year including five in a row. Sophomore middle blocker Faye Barhorst (Fort Loramie, Ohio) had 18 kills of her own while hitting .484 and tallying a match-high six blocks for UD. Offensively, the Flyers outhit the Colonials .285 to .094 as junior setter Nicole Schott (Roscoe, Ill.) dished out 46 assists while recording eight digs. The Dayton defense controlled George Washington throughout the match, holding a 11.0 to 7.0 lead in blocks and a 63 to 52 advantage in digs. Utnage led the way with 15 digs followed by senior Shanna Pressler (Archbold, Ohio) and freshman Angela Rueve (Cincinnati, Ohio) who each had nine. UD returns to play on Thursday at the Frericks Center against A-10 rival Xavier at 7 p.m. |
