Joe Bonner spent two seasons as an assistant at the University of Dayton under Head Coach Tim Horsmon.

Bonner and Horsmon coached together overall from 1998 to 2004. In addition to being an assistant at Robert Morris for three years, Bonner joined Horsmon's staff during Calvert High School's championship season. Bonner has also coached Junior Olympic Travel Elite teams, including Southern Maryland juniors, Pennsylvania Juniors and Pittsburgh Elite.

Bonner also has four years of collegiate club volleyball experience . A 1997 graduate of Frostburg State University, Bonner's club team made two national tournament appearances, as well as three years of USAV. While at RMU, Bonner was responsible for the development of the middle hitters. Under his guidance, RMU had four middle hitters receive All-Conference honors as well as one being named NEC Player of the Year for two consecutive years. He also was the travel and recruiting coordinator and served as the team's strength and conditioning coach.

Bonner worked primarily with the middle hitters and blocking. In addition to his on-court duties, Bonner was responsible for team travel, game operations and assisting with recruiting.

A native of Huntingtown, Maryland, Bonner received a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Frostburg State.
