DAYTON, Ohio - Kandice Erwin announced on Wednesday she will be stepping down as head track and field coach at the University of Dayton. Erwin, who has coached the Flyers for two years, will be moving to Illinois with her husband, Chris and son, Kason at the end of May for family reasons.

"Choosing to leave UD was one of the biggest decisions of my live, since we've accomplished so much with the program in the past two years, but being at home to raise Kason made the decision a little easier," said Erwin." "I am sad to leave Ohio, but excited about moving closer to family. I have loved every minute of being a part of the UD family and I will miss it tremendously."

In her two years at Dayton, Erwin has raised the bar for the track and field program. Under her reign, eight indoor and 12 outdoor track and field school records have been broken including a total of 12 this season alone. In addition, nine Flyers have earned Atlantic 10 Conference honors, including three this year. Last year, the team earned All American honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCA) for having a cumulative team G.P.A. above 3.00.

"Kandice was a great fit for the University of Dayton. She is passionate about track and the total development of the student-athlete," Joe Owens, UD Associate Director of Athletics said. "We had many of the best results in the history of our program during her two years with us. Her team's success on the track was exceeded by its academic performance and their involvement in community service and in leadership positions in and outside of athletics. I have enjoyed watching her work. She is a quality person and a talented coach. I hope the future holds only great things for her and her family," Owens added.

The search for a new Flyer head track and field coach will begin immediately.
