POHLMAN GETS SILVER AND BRONZE ON FIRST DAY OF 2005 ATLANTIC 10 OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
May 8, 2005 University of Dayton junior thrower Kelly Pohlman (Versailles, OH) placed second in the discus (139-10) and third in the hammer throw ( a career-best 152-09) on day one of the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held this weekend in Richmond, Virginia. Pohlman will defend her 2004 A-10 championship in the shot put tomorrow. Joining Pohlman on the medal stand was freshman Connie Fleming (Valrico, FL), who was third in the discus (a personal record 135-4). Sophomore Candace McKinley (Helotes, TX) had a strong performance in the first four events of the heptathlon. She won 100m hurdles (15.62) and shot put (36-5.5), and was second in the 200m dash (27.17). The final three events of the heptathlon, along with the rest of the championship meet, will be held Sunday. With seven of the 25 events in the books, UD is fifth in the team standings. Duquesne and Rhode Island are tied in first place (64 points), followed by Richmond (55), Massachusetts (28.5), Dayton (25), La Salle (22), Temple (18.5), Fordham (17), Saint Joseph's (15), and Xavier (3).
