DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton Track & Field team heads to Charlotte for the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday and Sunday. Leading the way for the Flyers will be senior Kelly Pohlman, the two-time defending A-10 shot put champion. She currently has the longest shot put of the season in the Atlantic 10 Conference by over three feet.

Pohlman, a senior from Versailles, OH, was named the recipient of the Charles R Kendall Memorial Awards of Excellence and Academic Effort, the Fighting Flyer Award, and the White Allen Chevrolet MVP for Field Events.

UD's Co-Rookie of the Year Amy Kremer is already in the top 10 in the Atlantic 10 in three events, the high jump, heptathlon and 400m hurdles, and the freshman looks for a strong finish in each oh those events. Her heptathlon score of 4,029 points was the best in the Atlantic 10 this season.

Freshman Andrea Cornell, who was also UD's co-Rookie of the Year, has the second fastest-time in the Atlantic 10 in the 100m hurdles and placed the highest of all UD track runners at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Championships.

Other Flyers who are at the top of the Atlantic 10 are senior Stacia Harold, who is in the top 10 in both the 100m and 200m events and the long jump. Cross Country standout Dianne Striebel is in the top 10 in the 10,000 m, and Tara Hentgen is in the top 10 in the triple jump.

The Flyers were picked to finish seventh in the A-10 in the pre-season forecast. The 2006 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championships begin Saturday at 9:00 a.m. with the Heptathlon.
