KREMER SETS UD PENTATHLON RECORD AT BALL STATE ON SATURDAY
Dec. 9, 2006
DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton sophomore Amy Kremer led the Flyers with 3408 points recording a new school record and three new personal-bests at the Ball State University Pentathlon meet on Saturday. Overall, Dayton had three track & field members compete with two placing in the Top 10. Freshman Micailah Brock and senior Candace McKinley also competed in the pentathlon; a track and field contest that includes five different events (60m hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put, and 800m run) and is won by the individual with the highest total score. Brock recorded two personal-bests while McKinley finished tenth overall. Kremer led Dayton placing fourth overall at the meet. The Minster, Ohio native was just 292 points shy from qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships. In her first three events she recorded personal-bests and tied the school record; a record she already owns. She ran the 60m hurdles for a personal-best of 9.87. In the high jump, she once again recorded a jump of 5-8 to tie her personal-best from last week, in which she set a new school record. In addition, Kremer also threw a personal-best in the shot put at 36-4.75. In the long jump she recorded a leap of 16-3.75 and in the 800m run she crossed the finish line at 2:35.29. Kremer was only three points away from a third place finish overall. McKinley had a great day coming off an injury that plagued her 2006 season. The Texas native came close to recording personal-bests in each event. She placed tenth overall with 3106 points. Her performances included strong times in the 60m hurdles (9.68) and the 800m run (2:49.09). In the high jump, she took a leap of 4-9.5 and in the long jump recorded a distance of 17-4.75. She led UD in the shot put with a throw of 38-7.75. Brock, did not place at the meet due to injury. The freshman Flyer withdrew after three events, but was in sixth place going into the fourth event. Despite her withdrawal, she recorded two personal-bests in the high jump (5-1.75) and the shot put (34-11.75). In the 60m hurdles event she clocked in at 9.41. "All our multi event athletes had a great outing today. It was so exciting to see them step up against some of the best college athletes in Ohio," said head track & field coach Kandice Erwin. "I really feel like they have a shot to go 1-2-3 at the A-10 Championships in the heptathlon later this spring. Since our conference does not have the pentathlon at our Indoor Championships, I would really like to find another multi-event contest for the girls to compete giving them one more chance to qualify for nationals," she added. The Flyers will return to Ball State University on January 12 for the Ball State Open in Muncie, Indiana. |
